Burgundy tiles in my kitchen?

I have just moved into a flat and i can not afford to change the burgundy tiles in the kitchen and i hate them. Does anyone out there know what i can do to them.I don't wont to paint them as i am not allowed by the land lord.I thought maybe transfers but they look a bit cheap.I need help fast because i have to wallpaper and i wont to sort the tiles out first.Cheers from Sylvie
