Do you prefer friends that are more like or different than yourself?

I have a close friend...but she is different in every sense. Then I got to thinking about my other friends...and we all have major differences, political, modern medicine-wise, raising families, etc. This doesn't seem to affect the friendship...but I just noticed that pattern in my own friend-circle. What about you? I am 24 years old...and a wife and mother...so this is not from a teenage standpoint...I am talking about adult friendships here.
